Colours Of Autumn & Harvest
We are looking forward to a busy week at Crickets Nurseries Next week. We will be welcoming some new children to our nurseries, and we will be spending plenty of time helping them become familiar with their new surroundings, their practitioners, and the other children. Starting nursery is a big step for little ones, so we will be giving them lots of reassurance and gentle encouragement as they begin to find their feet. Next week our learning will focus on the colours red and yellow. We will be encouraging children to notice these colours in the world around them and to begin recognising and naming them. We will look for red and yellow objects around the nursery, in our outdoor environment, and in the things we see in everyday life. We will also encourage the children to spot these colours at home, making it easy for them to continue their learning with their families. The children will also have lots of opportunities to explore red and yellow through creative activities. We will be printing, painting, and creating colourful collages, allowing the children to experiment with different materials while becoming more familiar with the two colours. These activities also give children the chance to develop their hand control and coordination as they squeeze, dab, press, stick and explore. Later in the week, we will turn our colour learning into some fun recognition games. We will encourage the children to find particular colours, match objects and make choices when presented with red and yellow items. For our younger children, simply noticing and exploring the colours is an important first step, while older children may begin to name the colours themselves and use them confidently in their play. We will also start to enjoy some of our harvest time music at nursery. The children have been listening to our harvest songs CD and will begin to pick up some of the songs, so you may find that a few new nursery tunes make their way home with them! Music is a lovely way for children to develop their listening, memory and language skills, while singing and dancing gives them the freedom to join in, move their bodies and have fun together.
