Autumn Term, Week 2: Autumn Colours

Welcome to a new week at Little Crickets Nursery, Walsall.

We are delighted to say that most of our new starters and returning children have settled very well into the nursery environment and are coping very well with their nursery routine.

This week we will be encouraging children to recognise and discuss red and yellow items which can be found in their nursery, home and outdoor environments.

We will be experimenting with printing and creating collages with the colours red and yellow, and in the latter part of the week we will be introducing colour recognition games.

Older children at the nursery will begin their Read, Write Inc. scheme work this week so will be coming home with small cards displaying letters on them. Please encourage your child to become familiar with the sounds that are sent home so that we can progress quickly to the second stages of learning within the scheme.

We have started to listen to and enjoy music from our Harvest Season CD, so you will begin to hear new songs and melodies that your child will have picked up from nursery over the coming weeks. Please encourage their learning by joining in with the singing and actions and encouraging their joy in this.

We are looking forwards to this week of learning together,

From the Little Crickets team.

Autumn Term, Week 1: Welcome Back

Hello, and welcome to the Parents Newsletter. This is your weekly opportunity to learn all about what your children will be learning in the forthcoming week at Little Crickets Nursery Walsall, so that you may best be prepared for any upcoming activities and so that you may continue to support your child’s learning at home.

The staff at Little Crickets would like to welcome you all back from the long summer break.  We hope that you are rested and you and your children are ready to enjoy the next seven weeks at Little Crickets.

This week we are introducing some new children into our nursery and helping returning children settle back into the nursery space.

We will be encouraging children to share their experiences  about their summer holidays, and helping children to identify key characteristics about themselves.

To support this learning children will be engaged in creating their own name badges, and we will be helping children to self register.

THINGS TO REMEMBER

Starting a new academic year can be confusing and a very busy time for primary carers and children alike. To help ease any extra worries, here’s a handy checklist of things to remember.

First date of term: Tuesday 10th September

Nursery session times:
Morning sessions – 9:15 to 12:15
Afternoon sessions – 11:45 to 2:45

THINGS TO BRING:

  • A bag (eg. rucksack) with a full change of clothes (all clothes and shoes, both those your child is wearing and any spare clothes brought into the nursery space should be clearly labelled with your child’s name). Please ensure that the bag itself is also clearly labelled to help prevent loss.
  • Packed lunch (if your child is staying for lunch time). Please ensure packed lunches and any drinks bottles are clearly labelled. We recommend a variety of foods for a packed lunch:
    1) main food (sandwich, curry, etc)
    2) piece of fruit
    3) yoghurt (or similar)
    4) snack bar or savoury item that your child enjoys
    5) drink
  • Weather-appropriate outdoor wear. As the weather will be changing with the coming seasons, it is especially important that children are dressed appropriately for outdoor play. All coats, shoes, hats, etc should be clearly labelled with clear name tags.

Labelling clothing and belongings may seem like a chore, but it helps children to recognise their own belongings as well as driving name recognition. It is also vital that nursery practitioners are able to ensure that children have their own belongings in the nursery space and at the end of the day.
