Spookly Week (it’s both Sparkly and Spooky)

Sparkles, Spells and Celebration Fun

Next week we’ll be diving into a wonderful mix of light, colour and a sprinkle of spooky magic as we celebrate Diwali, Bandi Chhor Divas and Halloween! Both the toddler and baby rooms will be filled with festive crafts, sensory play, and joyful celebrations as the children explore different traditions through play, music and creativity.

Toddler Room

On Monday, the toddlers will begin the week by making colourful decorations to prepare for our big Halloween and Diwali celebration. Using paper, glue, glitter and other craft materials, they’ll create festive pieces to brighten up the nursery, developing fine motor skills and teamwork while learning about preparing for special events together.

On Tuesday, it’s our exciting Halloween, Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas Party! The children will come together to celebrate with songs, dancing, and treats as we mix the sparkle of Diwali lights with a touch of Halloween fun. This lively day will help the toddlers explore cultural traditions while enjoying a joyful sense of community.

During Wednesday, the children will explore bubble painting to create their own magical cauldron pictures. They’ll blow colourful bubbles into paint, watching the patterns form as they print them onto paper. This fun and messy process will let their imaginations bubble over as they learn about colour, shape and cause and effect.

On Thursday, the toddlers will get creative making Halloween hands and witches’ wands. They’ll trace and decorate hand shapes, then use colourful paper and glitter to craft their own magical wands. This imaginative activity will build fine motor skills while encouraging expressive play as they pretend to cast friendly spells.

To finish the week on Friday, the children will enjoy listening to Room on the Broom and singing Halloween-themed nursery rhymes. As they follow along with the story, they’ll join in with actions and sounds, helping them build language and rhythm skills while soaking up the cheerful Halloween atmosphere.

Baby Room

On Monday, the babies will make bright handprint fireworks using paint. Staff will encourage them to notice the marks they make and talk about the colours bursting across the page. This joyful sensory activity will help babies explore cause and effect while creating their own mini fireworks to celebrate the season of light.

On Tuesday, the babies will join in our Halloween, Diwali and Bandi Chhor Divas Party, where they’ll enjoy dancing, singing and sensory fun. Practitioners will share colourful lights and festive music to create a cheerful atmosphere, helping babies to experience celebration and community through sounds, sights and movement.

During Wednesday, the babies will enjoy colour-sorting Halloween activities using themed objects. Practitioners will encourage them to match and explore shades of orange, black and purple, building early observation and sorting skills while engaging in playful seasonal fun.

On Thursday, the babies will explore a Halloween-themed sensory tuff tray filled with textured materials like soft fabrics, crinkly paper and smooth plastic pumpkins. As they reach, squeeze and explore, they’ll develop sensory awareness and curiosity while discovering new textures and sounds linked to the spooky season.

To finish the week on Friday, the babies will decorate pictures of candles using printouts and a variety of craft materials. Practitioners will support them in sticking, dabbing and sprinkling bright colours to mimic glowing candle flames, helping them connect creativity with the warmth and brightness of Diwali’s light-filled traditions.
