Summer Learning at Crickets Nurseries

Dear parents and carers, we’d like to share with you an overview of our special topic recap weeks for those children attending over the summer period.

Children that attend on a 51 week (stretched) provision will be enjoying a special Summer learning journey as we revisit all of the wonderful topics we have explored throughout this academic year.

Each week, we will focus on one of the six half-term topics, giving the children the opportunity to rediscover familiar activities, stories, songs, and experiences while building on everything they have already learned.

Revisiting learning is a valuable part of early years education. Young children learn best through repetition, and returning to familiar topics helps to strengthen their understanding, improve memory and recall, develop confidence, and encourage them to make new connections as they grow. As children develop, they often notice new details, ask different questions, and engage with activities in exciting new ways.

Keyworkers will continue to adapt activities to suit each child’s age, stage of development, and individual interests, ensuring that every child remains challenged, engaged, and inspired while having lots of fun.

We are looking forward to spending the summer celebrating everything the children have achieved this year, while reinforcing the skills and knowledge that will help them continue to flourish in the months ahead.

Learning At Home (Keeping The Momentum Going!)

For children on a 38 week (term time only) provision, we would recommend that families enjoy recapping some of the topics visited at home, and come together to enjoy daily stories, family song time and gentle learning. This is also a perfect time to practice some valuable life skills. For children who have not yet started potty training, and are at a stage where you feel they may be ready, the six week break is a wonderful opportunity to start working on the process of moving away from nappies. Other practical skills like cutlery usage and putting on clothes and working with clothes fasteners such as zips and buttons are other wonderful skills for children to practice over the summer break.

Here’s to a wonderful summer of growth and learning for ALL our children and families ☀️
