Bright Bursts and Autumn Colours

Next week, both rooms will be diving into a week full of colour, sparkle and creativity as we explore fireworks, festivals and the beauty of autumn. The children will enjoy sensory play, seasonal crafts and plenty of opportunities to express themselves through art, movement and music.

Toddler Room

On Monday, the toddlers will celebrate Author’s Day by creating their very own bookmarks. Using coloured card and various art materials , they’ll design unique pieces to take home. Practitioners will encourage the children to talk about their favourite storybooks, helping to build early literacy interest and fine motor skills in a fun, creative way.

During Tuesday, the children will explore the sights and sounds of bonfire night by making colourful bonfire pictures and exploring a themed tuff tray filled with red, orange and yellow textures. They’ll use scrunched paper to create fiery effects while talking about how we stay safe around fireworks.

On Wednesday, the toddlers will celebrate Guru Nanak’s birthday by decorating biscuits with icing and sprinkles. This activity will open a gentle conversation about celebrations and sharing food with family and friends. Practitioners will support the children to decorate their biscuits carefully, encouraging focus, creativity and fine motor coordination.

By Thursday, the children will explore a fun marble-printing activity to create autumn-inspired artwork. They’ll dip marbles in paint and roll them across paper to make swirling patterns, noticing how colours mix and move. This hands-on session helps develop hand-eye coordination and sparks curiosity about colour and motion.

To finish the week on Friday, the toddlers will create adorable hedgehog crafts using paper, paint and natural materials. Practitioners will talk about where hedgehogs live and how animals prepare for winter, linking creativity with early understanding of nature and the changing seasons.

Baby Room

On Monday, the babies will begin the week by making vibrant fireworks pictures using colourful straws. Practitioners will help them press and twist the straws to make starburst shapes, talking about colours and patterns as they appear. This sensory art supports coordination and visual curiosity.

During Tuesday, the babies will make bonfire pictures using their handprints, sticks and leaves. They’ll enjoy feeling the different textures and noticing the natural colours of autumn. Practitioners will encourage language around “hot,” “cold,” “rough,” and “smooth,” building early sensory vocabulary through play.

On Wednesday, the babies will take part in sensory ribbon play to create firework movements while listening to sounds of fireworks crackling and popping. They’ll wave and twirl ribbons through the air, exploring motion, rhythm and sound in a joyful, multisensory way that supports coordination and listening skills.

On Thursday, the babies will decorate biscuits with brightly coloured icing and edible decorations. Practitioners will support them to squeeze, spread and sprinkle while exploring different textures and colours. This fun, tasty activity encourages independence and helps build fine motor control.

To round off the week on Friday, the babies will create a group firework display by rolling paint-covered balls across paper to make colourful trails. Practitioners will describe the movements as the balls roll, helping children make connections between their actions and the beautiful patterns they see.
