As autumn continues, we are turning our attention to the season of harvest. This is a wonderful time of year to celebrate the food that grows in our fields and gardens, and to help the children understand where some of their favourite meals begin.
This week we will be creating a special harvest table together, where the children will be invited to explore and identify a variety of vegetables. They will have the chance to talk about their favourites, describe their colours, shapes, and textures, and learn the names of some new ones too.
To build on this learning, the children will be encouraged to choose a vegetable they like best and paint their chosen vegetable. This activity will give them the opportunity to observe details closely and use their creativity to represent what they see.
We will also be sharing stories linked to food and harvest time, and exploring how different cultures around the world enjoy different types of vegetables in their meals. These discussions will help the children develop a wider understanding of food and how it connects us to others.
We would love it if you could continue this learning at home by talking with your child about the meals you enjoy as a family and the vegetables you use in your cooking. Sharing these experiences together will make the learning even more meaningful for the children.
