All Aboard!

Next week, we’ll be setting off on a brand-new theme—Transport! From boats and bikes to painting and building, the children will be exploring different ways to travel through a mix of sensory play, creative crafts and plenty of movement.

Toddler Room

We’ll begin our journey on Monday by looking at the many different forms of transport we might use when going on holiday. Using flashcards and conversation, we’ll introduce new words and talk about aeroplanes, boats, trains and more, whilst building vocabulary and making connections to the children’s own experiences.

Tuesday will be all about colour and creativity as children mix their own paints to design and decorate their own vehicles. Whether it’s a red train or a rainbow-coloured car, children will be encouraged to experiment with blending colours and expressing their ideas through paint.

On Wednesday, we’ll be getting busy with boxes, tubes and recycled bits and bobs to junk model our own boats. As children build, they’ll explore different textures and materials, developing problem-solving skills and creativity along the way.

Those handmade boats will be put to the test on Thursday, as we set up a water tray and see whether they float or sink. We’ll talk about what makes things float and what causes them to sink, introducing early science concepts through playful exploration.

To round off the week on Friday, we’ll head outside for a movement-packed session exploring different types of ride-on toys. Children will be encouraged to try out bikes, weeble cars, pedal and balance bikes, building coordination, balance and confidence through active outdoor play.

Baby Room

We’ll be joining in the transport fun over in the Baby Room with some colourful creativity. On Monday, babies will be using a variety of toy vehicles dipped in paint to make tyre print marks on paper. As they roll, press and glide the vehicles across the surface, they’ll explore texture, pattern and the cause-and-effect of movement.

On Tuesday, babies will be using paper plates to create their very own vehicles, decorating them with paint and tissue paper to explore colour, texture, and shape. This gentle craft allows for early mark-making and tactile discovery.

Wednesday brings some splashy fun as we enjoy water play with floating boats. Babies will have the chance to dip, pour, splash and float small boats across the water, supporting their curiosity, coordination, and understanding of how things move.

We’ll be exploring shape and form on Thursday as we create helicopters using pre-cut paper shapes. With support, babies will arrange and glue the pieces onto paper, helping to build early spatial awareness and developing those little hands through sticking and pressing.

To finish off the week on Friday, we’ll be offering a selection of creative materials for babies to decorate their own aeroplanes. With ribbons, stickers, fabrics and more, each child will have the chance to personalise their plane in their own unique way, encouraging choice-making and sensory exploration.

We’re looking forward to a week of hands-on learning and lively exploration or our new theme.
