Next week, we’ll be gently helping the children explore the idea of growing up and getting ready for school. It’s a big step in their journey, and we’re here to make it as positive and reassuring as possible.
We’ll begin by introducing the concept of school uniform: why we wear it, what it represents, and how it helps children feel part of their new class and community. We’ll practise putting on uniform items and even have fun learning quick and easy ways to get dressed for P.E., building independence and confidence along the way.
To support this learning, we’ll also be sharing stories about moving on to new schools or settings. These books are a lovely way to open up discussions about feelings and help children express any worries or questions they might have. We’ll talk together about what to expect, how to handle big emotions, and all the exciting new experiences that school will bring.
Role play will play an important part too: children will act out first-day scenarios, practise introducing themselves, and explore how to be a kind and welcoming friend. These playful moments help build empathy and prepare them emotionally and socially for their next steps.
It’s a special week full of big ideas and important learning, all delivered in a calm, supportive, and encouraging way.
