We’re continuing our summer explorations next week with a mix of creative crafts, outdoor adventures and sensory play. Whether we’re searching for seashells or trying to catch fish with our homemade rods, there’s plenty of excitement ahead for both our toddlers and babies!
Toddler Room
We’ll be starting the week with some fishing fun. On Monday, the children will be using pipe cleaners to create their own colourful fish and fishing rods, which they’ll then use in the water tray, developing those all-important fine motor skills as they try to catch their fishy creations.
Tuesday will be a sandy adventure as we explore mark-making in the sand tray. With a variety of tools, children will be encouraged to draw, scoop, and see what shapes and patterns they can create in the soft texture of the sand.
On Wednesday, we’re bringing the beach indoors by making our very own beach balls. Using different colours, children will explore patterns, sequencing and shape as they design their vibrant summer decorations.
We’ll be out and about on Thursday, taking a walk in our local area to look for different types of transport. Whether it’s a bus, a bike or a lorry, we’ll be encouraging the children to notice the world around them and talk about what they see zooming by.
To finish off the week on Friday, we’ll be getting active in the garden with a range of ball games and practising throwing, catching, and kicking. We’ll even weave through tunnels as we prepare for our upcoming Jumping Jimmy Fit programme. Lots of movement, coordination and fun!
Baby Room
We’ll be starting the week on Monday with a lovely summer craft: decorating paper butterflies with colourful tissue paper to create a bright and cheerful garden display. This gentle activity supports colour recognition and fine motor development.
On Tuesday, we’ll cuddle up and explore a range of summer-themed books. Through simple stories and illustrations, babies will begin to connect the language and imagery of the season: sun, sand, flowers and more.
Our little ones will be creating some buzz on Wednesday as we make sponge-print bees. By dabbing yellow and black paint to form stripes, babies will enjoy exploring contrast and repetition in a fun and tactile way.
Thursday brings a sensory treat as we dig for seashells in our sand tray. We’ll explore the different textures of sand and shells, introducing early language like smooth, rough, hard and soft.
Then on Friday, we’ll cool off with some water and bubble play in the tuff tray. As we splash, pour and pop bubbles, we’ll be talking about how water feels and how it helps us stay cool in warmer weather, which will be a lovely end to our sunny week.
