This week has been a fantastically exciting time in the nursery where everyone has been doing their best learning and playing. The weather hasn’t been quite as nice as it has been over the previous few weeks, but we haven’t let a little rain spoil our play as our jungle and farm-themed play areas have kept everyone entertained.
But we are about to leave the cosy farm-life behind for a bit, and uproot ourselves from our jungle adventures, to go all Jaques Cousteau on our Underwater Adventures!
Toddler Room
We’re diving deep into discovery this week as we explore the wonders of the ocean! With plenty of splashes, colour, and creativity, our little learners will discover what lies beneath the waves through exciting sensory and imaginative activities.
To begin the week, on Monday we’re putting on our goggles and peeking beneath the ocean waves to see what treasures we can find! Using a colourful parachute, we’ll create rolling sea waves and dive into a magical sea-themed treasure hunt. What will we discover beneath the bubbles?
Tuesday’s activities are inspired by The Rainbow Fish, as we’ll be creating our very own shimmering sea creatures using cotton pads, food colouring, and pipettes, as we watch the colours swirl and mix like magic! We’ll also be listening to watery music like Aquarium by Camille Saint-Saëns to set the underwater mood.
On Wednesday we’ll be learning about the unique shapes and textures of starfish. Using bubble wrap and paint, the children will create beautiful starfish prints. We’ll look closely at their patterns and features to discover what makes a starfish so special.
During Thursday we’ll be exploring texture with soft, squishy sand dough perfect for building, pressing, and creating ocean-themed shapes. We’ll also gather together to enjoy gentle rhymes and stories that take us under the sea, bringing the ocean to life through words and rhythm.
Friday will see us end our week with some creative fun. Children will have the chance to freely paint their very own sea creatures such as jellyfish, octopuses, whales or anything they imagine! We’ll finish with a pattern and colour-matching game, encouraging children to spot similarities and differences in the sea life we’ve explored.
Baby Room
This week we’re diving into a splashy sea of sensory exploration—filled with bubbles, squishy textures, creative crafts, and underwater creatures galore!
On Monday we’ll start our week with some moon sand magic! Your little one’s hands will love digging into a tray filled with soft moon sand and tissue paper “seaweed.” Then it’s time for bubble art: we will watch as colourful bubbles burst on paper to create beautiful under-the-sea masterpieces!
During Tuesday our little explorers will squish and squeeze their way through a gooey hair gel sensory bag, discovering hidden sea creatures beneath the surface. Then it’s time to feed the shark! Children will post items into a hungry cardboard shark with a big open mouth, which is sure to be an exciting activity for fine motor skills and giggles galore.
On Wednesday it’s jelly time! We’ll explore cool, wobbly vegan jelly with sea creatures hiding inside, perfect for sensory play and surprise discoveries. Our seaweed sensory bin will be filled with green paper streamers and sea animals for more hands-on fun.
Thursday is our adventuring day, as we are setting sail with an under-the-sea water tray, where children can splash, pour, and discover floating sea life. Later, we’ll be getting creative with handprint crabs, using red paint and our own hands to craft cheerful crustaceans.
Froggy Friday sees us set our feet partially back on land as we finish the week with a Five Little Speckled Frogs tuff tray, bringing this much-loved rhyme to life with toys and splashy water play. Then it’s time for some froggy finger painting, adding colourful spots to our frogs and talking about colours and counting.
We hope you and your families have a wonderful, splash-tastic week hearing about all your little deep-sea adventurers’ latest discoveries!
