Our Tiny Crickets have had another fantastic week of learning and fun this week. We had fun in the jungle jeep that we made, and learned all about some amazing animals. We are excited to share with you just a few of our plans for the coming week.

Toddler Room

We are continuing our learning about some of the incredible animals of the world with our toddlers. We are going to get the week off to a roarsome start on Monday by letting children create their very own animal masks. We will look at pictures of various animals that live in jungle habitats and children will pick their favourite to make their own animal mask.

On Tuesday we are going to learn about parrots and the wonderful bright primary colours that we can find on parrot feathers. Children will be able to explore colour mixing of the three primary colours (red, blue and yellow) and how they can be combined to form secondary colours.

Wednesday we will be enjoying a fun edible activity, making egg-free animal cake pops. We will be talking about different types of food and how cooking can change the texture and look of our ingredients into a finished food.

Have you ever seen parrots in Walsall? The rose ringed parakeet is quite common in the local area. Wild flocks of bright green parakeets have been spreading across the UK since the 1960s, and our chef has them feeding in her garden every day.

On Thursday we will be creating bird feeder to hang in the nursery garden. Maybe we’ll attract a parakeet of our own?

On Friday we’ll be looking at another amazing animal that we might find in the jungle: ssssssnakes! children will be harnessing their fine motor skills to practice threading multicoloured pasta shapes to make their own pasta snake. Sssssssuper!

Baby Room

Our amazing little learners in the Baby Room have been having an amazing time learning all about the animals they might spot down on a farm. We are continuing this theme this week, with fantastic activities that centre around amazing farm creatures.

On Monday we’ll be exploring textures and different sensory reactions with some farm animals in messy tangled spaghetti.

On Tuesday babies will be matching songs to actions and activities in two different ways. They’ll be guided through the song Five Little Ducks whilst enjoying water play and exploring the way the water moves when we touch it, and also learning animal dances whilst copying moved and moving their bodies to some music.

On Wednesday we are going to be asking our Baby Room explorers to help mummy duck find her ducklings, which have gone to play in the garden. We can’t wait to help reunite them.

On Thursday we’ll be honing our excellent spotting skills even further by searching from some colourful eggs hidden in the garden, and then putting out best animal rescue skills to the test by rescuing some animals from edible mud.

On Friday we’ll be finishing the week with some mark-making skills using different farm animal and vehicle toys and models to make prints on paper to explore what different marks and tracks animals and vehicles might leave behind.
