We have had a wonderful week at Tiny Crickets, and the children have all worked really hard to learn all about the animals we’ve been encountering down at the Tiny Crickets Farm! Will be continuing our animal themes in the nursery over the coming week – please see below for just some of the exciting things was have in store!
Toddler Room
This coming week we are excited to be taking our Tiny Crickets on an adventure into the jungle. We’ll be introducing the topic of jungle animals by a reading of the book Walking Through The Jungle, by Julie Lacome, before going on our own Jungle safari in the garden, searching for the animal toys that have been hidden there. When we find them we’ll be discussing the animals that we find and the noises that they make.
On Tuesday we will be working to create something that no intrepid jungle explorer should be without – our very own set of binoculars. Children will be able to select the materials that they use to make their own set of toy binoculars which we will then look through to help us spot the animals that are set up in our new jungle role play area.
On Wednesday we are going to be using the knowledge of the new animals we have been learning about to create our very own paper plate animals. Children will be using a number of different mark-making techniques to create their own version of their chosen animal.
On Thursday we will be delving even deeper into the jungle. It’s a place that we couldn’t possibly reach on foot, so we’ll need a Jungle Jeep. But oh no! We don’t have one! Never fear, our intrepid toddlers won’t let that stop them. We’ll research some real-life Jungle Jeeps and use our major muscles to set about creating our own for our jungle roleplay area using large boxes and some camouflage paint techniques.
On Friday we’ll be reflecting on our adventures and the things we might like to do after our exciting safari week. We’ll be reinforcing our continuous learning about shapes and be completing an inset puzzle using our shape recognition skills, which we’ve been improving with all that looking and searching that we have been doing.

Baby Room
During the coming week our little farmers in the Baby Room will continue their exploration of farm life and all the farm animals that we have been learning about.
Our younger babies will be trying to find some fancy chicken eggs that the chicken has laid, and our older babies will be helping to colour sort them for the hens.
We’ll be practicing our ee aye ee aye ohs with a few rounds of Old MacDonald, and children will be trying to fill in the animal sounds of this favourite rhyming song. It makes a great family singalong if you want to give it a go yourself. Make sure to do your very best mooing!
We’ll be doing a lot of creative activities and mark-making based on what we have learned about the farm animals that we love the most. We’ll be making a lovely pink paper plate pig with an egg carton nose to practise our fine motor skills. We’ll also be exploring different farm textures by painting sheep with our puffy paint, whilst practicing the sound that they make. Baa-rilliant.
We’ll be using puppets and display trays to encourage our babies to form a strong recognition between different farm animals and the different sounds they make, where the babies can interact with the different creatures on our Tiny Crickets farm, before taking a well-earned rest from all that heavy farm work for the weekend.
