Tiny Kitchen Garden

We’d like to let parents know that we had a little milestone in the Tiny Crickets garden today, where we used the first of our homegrown organic produce in the spinach and tomato orzo which was served for lunch. It may have only been a few herbs (as the newly refurbished garden is still in its infancy), but the wonderful care and gentle watering done by our Tiny Crickets has been ensuring that the plants grow extra strong and healthy.

Yesterday the children were involved in planting potatoes into special grow bags, ‘tucking them in’ to the soil to keep them warm and protected, and giving them a healthy drink of water to help them grow. Children also planted onion sets in our special onion planter.

Children will learn to care for their plants from sowing to harvest, and then will enjoy their homegrown fruits and vegetables in some specially cooked meals.

So far we have planted onions, potatoes, carrots, a selection of herbs, some strawberries, blackcurrants and redcurrants into our garden, and the children have been really enjoying their watering duties!
